I often get inspired to write a haiku for the Troutswirl weekly feature, What’s at Hand, but I seldom get my verse ready and sent off by Saturday afternoon. So I’ll just share my ideas here.
beach party over
empty bottles settle
into the sand
beer cans
in the cave – signs of
intelligent life
Don’t you just hate garbage left lying around?
Did you see that sad sight of a hermit crab using a doll’s head as its new “shell”?

No, I haven’t. I’ll have to Google it. The saddest sight I’ve seen is a dead gull with a plastic six-pack ring around its neck, the ring having clearly strangled the poor bird. Ever since then I’ve picked up any plastic like that whenever I come across it.

I make sure mine are cut before recycling, just in case.

An excellent idea. I do, too, since they don’t decompose at the dump.
