The Ragtag Daily Prompt this morning is CHICANERY
I’ve always thought of this as silly, naughty, or clever pranks, but I was wrong. Merriam-Websters says it means deception by artful subterfuge or sophistry: trickery.
So here’s my example:
With his suave manners, overblown promises and financial chicanery — he called it “creative accounting” — he was able to convince a number of seniors to invest in his well camouflaged Ponzie scheme.
Oh, we’ve known some of those… though not personally 🙂

Some get really good at what they do! My cousin lost a few thousand $ once to someone who needed a little cash to promote some new gadget, a “sure-seller. Will pay generous returns.

I know someone who lost a lot of money in the same way. It broke his spirit, as well as his bank.

I hove never been drawn to super-charming, flattering people. They give me the willies. While they kiss you on your hand, they’re picking your pocket. Smiling the whole time. Bah!

I think there are different ways people try to pinch us. Some try the sincere/emotional, almost desperate approach: “I mean well. You just gotta believe me.”
Or, “just a little cash/ help right now and I’ll get my problem licked.” Unlike the career con, the “hard-luck-right-now” type often believe the line themselves.
