This year is the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. On Tuesday, 8 May 1945 the Allies of World War II formally accepted Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender.
So, one last haiku to specially commemorate this day:
the war long ended
he brought home a medal
a souvenir limp
……………………………………………………………..
75 years later, still fighting the war of prejudice and heartless leaders.

Thanks for your comment. It seems people know so much more about each other nowadays, and yet I wonder if prejudice has escalated rather than diminished over the years? But then when I think of the book, Black Like Me and the prejudice he describes…
There are laws, but I think the breakdown in respect for authority, leading to the breakdown of respect for law and order, has exacerbated the situation. Laws don’t help much if people aren’t afraid to break them. When I was young, if the teacher, the principal, or the police laid down the law, you smartened up and toed the line.
As to “heartless leaders”…I wonder if a kind-hearted one would survive the election process?

Today is Terry’s birthday. He was two years old when the war in Europe ended.

Happy birthday to him! I can imagine his parents heaved a great sigh of relief when they heard the good news.

I really liked how you tied bringing home the medal with having a limp. There are no real winners in war. Thank you.
