Death to Black Friday!

My last post is titled, “Does anyone believe in war?” Two weeks later I’m ready to beat the war drums. I’m ready to declare war — and not just on Black Friday itself, but on EARLY Black Friday, PRE-Black Friday, ADVANCE Black Friday, SNEAK PEEK at Black Friday, COUNTDOWN to Black Friday, PRECURSOR to Black Friday, Black Friday PREMIERE, PRECOCIOUS Black Friday, and whatever other variations pop up before the actual day.

One company I know of has been advertising their PRE-BLACK FRIDAY SALE for two weeks already! And this is Canada, where we don’t even DO “Black Friday.” Our American neighbors must be absolutely bombarded.

Enough griping. 😉 While we aren’t having any Black Friday nonsense, we are having a craft sale at the nearby seniors’ residence and I’ve been painting up a storm in preparation. Here’s a SNEAK PEEK at one of my offerings:

  1. Yes except on the death part. Down here lately there are too many that would take the death part literally. I would settle for the ‘gotta go do anything else’ response. Exit stage left and briskly at that…

    1. And here in Canada we have Boxing Day. Boxing week, Boxing December — as well as Pre-Christmas, Countdown to Christmas, etc. An ever-whirling merry-go-round and what retailers gain in sales they likely spend in ads.
Glad you like my cottage. 🙂

  2. I loathe that our nation has followed, once again, the American way. I work for a furniture broker. Can I tell you how done I am with the whole bleeping Black Friday crap? I can’t stand the bombardment we get here, now, too.
I’m sure there are far too many who buy into the whole ridiculous frenzy caused by these supposed sales.
    Absolutely love your painting!

    1. Thanks for your comment. I heartily agree. Michael’s is having a great Black Friday weekend sale, great prices on canvases — but I’m not going. I know already that SALE means crowded aisles, lineups at cashiers, impatient shoppers, frayed nerves. Been there, done that, ’tisn’t worth it;)
Actually the whole advertising/marketing scene in NA has deliberately created a mindset of people unhappy with what they now have and wanting something better, cheaper, faster. Maybe Covid has thrown a useful wrench in those gears?

      1. I thought Covid had squashed that one. Mind you, the on-line business is doing a hearty good business – sans crowds. However, I will only shop for something I already wanted. I refused to be seduced by the “Super Savings” blah blah…
When they have those warehouse sales for Hanes or whatever store? Oh. Em. Gee. Never again. People who flock to these things are animals – taking stuff out of YOUR shopping cart! What in the blessed eff?
