I peek out my door
on Sunday morning
and a choir of sparrows
revs up their song.
Spying an open door,
the little preachers begin.
A sermon of sparrows:
“Remember the needy!”
I reprove them at times
for the sin of gluttony–
all those uneaten seeds!
Beggars mustn’t waste.
But they never repent –
always picking the best
and leaving the rest
for lesser creatures.
My yard full of sparrows sing a similar tune…

Interesting how “cheep cheep cheep” sounds a lot like “feed feed feed!”

They are a messy lot, aren’t they? Mind you, if they leave enough on the ground, maybe the squirrels will content themselves with that? 🙂

Yes they are. We have no squirrels; likely the mice from the field nearby will gather some at night. And a lot left on the ground will just “return to the soil.”

It’s funny, as I pressed ‘send’, the question of whether or not you had squirrels crossed my mind…
